ASIANinNY.COM CELEBRATES CHINESE VALENTINE’S DAY
Site Rocks Night of Music, Dance, and (Maybe) Romance

New York, NY August 10 - AsianinNY.com, New York’s premier online destination for networking in the Asian community and multicultural entertainment, will celebrate Chinese Valentine’s Day with an event featuring an international lineup of performers on Saturday, August 14th, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, at Bennett Media Studio, 725 Washington Street, between West 11th and Bank Streets, in New York City.

If your Valentine’s Day was so great for you this year that you can’t wait until next year, you don’t have to. If it was a bit of a disappointment and left you wishing for better, here’s your chance. AsianinNY’s Chinese Valentine’s Day celebration brings all the fun, anticipation, and romance back one more time for this year.

There are several versions of the mythical romantic story from which Chinese Valentine’s Day originates. One version is a love story about the 7th daughter of the Emperor of Heaven and an orphaned cowherd. Displeased by their romance, the Emperor separated them. The 7th daughter was forced to move to the star Vega and the cowherd was moved to the star Altair. But loving his daughter very much, the Emperor relented on the punishment once a year, allowing the two lovers to see each other on the 7th day of the 7th month on the lunar calendar. Chinese Valentine’s Day is considered to be the most important day for people in love to go to the temple of the Matchmaker and pray for their love and the possibility of marriage. Single people go to the temple of the Matchmaker on Chinese Valentine’s Day to ask for luck in love.

“We expect over 400 people to attend our Chinese Valentine’s Day event,” says Christopher Lee, principal partner at AsianinNY. “We guarantee that people will make new friends, if not start new relationships! We will do all the work to make this Valentine’s celebration the place to be!”

MC for the night’s festivities will be stand-up comedian Esther Ku, a Season Six finalist on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and a featured regular in the Boston International Comedy Festival and the New York Underground Comedy Festival. On the bill to entertain guests at this Asian version of Cupid’s big day are folkloric and gypsy dance group Kulakova Dance Troupe, featuring Bollywood-style dance choreographed by the group’s creator, Julia Kulakova; the Exotic Experiment Band, which takes rock, funk, and electronic musical styles and adds exotic elements; and dancer and choreographer Rie Okamoto, who has performed on “Showtime at the Apollo.” There will be comedy from stand-up veterans Victor Chu and Chris Martin. Spinning music for the night will be recording artist DJ J4, who has released 4 rap albums with The Rock music production company in Taiwan.

Major sponsors supporting production of AsianinNY’s Chinese Valentine’s Day party include Asahi Beer, Bennett Media Studio, China1 Antique Restaurant and Lounge, IZZE, Lucullen, Mercy, MX2 Design Force, Noyu Teas, Who Low Media, and 247Feature.com.

Admission to the August 14th celebration of Chinese Valentine’s Day is $10 with an RSVP with full name and email address sent to info@AsianinNY.com before midnight on Friday, August 13th, $15 at the door. For more information, log on to www.asianinny.com/?p=7817.
